I go on and on about how bad it is to snack. Your blood sugar goes up then Insulin the anabolic (storage )hormone is released then sugar is converted to glycogen then stored as lipids (fat). I am sure you can now sing my insulin hymn from your heart if you have been following me.
Healing by changing diet and lifestyle is a journey and does not happen overnight. There are days you get overwhelmed with hunger pangs and cravings especially for the not so good foods, sweets, chocolates, cakes, alcohol, fizzy drinks etc
* Do not be mad at yourself and do not feel guilty. * Acknowledge where you are, Embrace the moment, step back, appreciate your journey and achievements so far. * Engage with self and make yourself a reasonably healthy snack and enjoy it
100 grams salmon 100 grams smoked ham 1 cucumber 1 tomato Handful blueberries
HOW TO MAKE IT:
Slice, dice, chop any shape you like Make it presentable to look at Remember your eyes eat first Arrange in your plate attractively Sit and enjoy your snack
WHY THIS SNACK?
The food combination to optimise digestion is out of the window. BUT it does help to keep you away from cakes fizzy drinks sweets etc. Our five senses trigger cravings and hunger pangs so in this snack the idea is to try and deal with the triggers Blueberries-Provide a beautiful colour and sweet taste Salmon and ham- Provide proteins and fats to keep you well satiated till your next meal Cucumber-Provides you with water, electrolytes and minerals. At times when the body is devoid of water, electrolytes and minerals this might present as hunger. Tomato- Provides a lovely red colour to fool the hypothalamus. Most chocolates and sweets are packaged in bright red/orange colours. The brain associates colourful pictures with food Yes it is a simple snack and yet there is logic and order behind every food in this plate. You can make your own rainbow snack based on the foods you enjoy. Tomorrow is another day. You will be back on track and continue your journey to ultimate health
